I’m craving a fresh look for my summer table and am in love with the matte black flatware that’s popping up at my favorite stores. Black is in style all year around in New York City, but I understand that you might wonder if it will feel summery enough. It will! Simply pair one of these flatware sets with crisp, white tableware or a splash of color like these gorgeous handmade cloth napkins and, just like that, a super fashionable table for the warm-weather months.
Here are some beautiful matte black flatware options from high to low, you know, given that even budget flatware tends to be pricey. And something to keep in mind: some (but not all) reviewers noted that the black can fade. We read reviews and skipped options that had a lot of complaints but, whichever set you choose, be sure to read reviews—or check the return policy!—for yourself.

CB2 is one of my go-to’s for functional, chic tableware on the affordable side of the specturm and they do not disappoint on the matte black trend. They have a 3-piece matte black flatware set that’s made of powdercoated stainless steel in an easy, modern shape that will give any place setting an edgy look.
You can get one 3-piece matte black flatware setting for $24.95 at CB2.
If you want a slightly more traditional shape, check out the Hampton Forge Melodie Oxidation flatware set. The juxtaposition between shape and color gives this set a flexible look that goes with nearly any style tableware. The only downside is that hand washing is recommended.

Of all the matte black flatware I’ve seen, this timeless design by Almoco seems to be the most popular and is my personal favorite. It seems to be setting the trend and, well, you know what that means: This flatware is on the pricier side. It’s also dishwasher safe and weighted, which makes a difference to me (am I the only one who doesn’t like when my fork or knife doesn’t have some heft?), so lets hope that you get what you pay for.
You can get a 5-piece setting of this Almoco Flatware for $53 at Design Within Reach.
Knork makes a matte black flatware set made of stainless steel with a black titanium finish that feels modern without the hard edges. The rounded shape may have a more laid-back feel, but the fork itself is anything but. Knork has redesigned the fork for better functionality, giving it a “finger platform” so that you can leverage a sharp, beveled outer edge to cut through foods without a knife. Pro: Knork was once (maybe still is?) the signature flatware for Top Chef. Con: Eating like the professionals costs more.

While we’re at it, if you’re ready to spend nearly $70 per place setting, you might want to take a look at the gorgeous Orly flatware set. Not entirely black, but rather black ombre (two trends are better than one?), this stainless steel, dishwasher safe set serves up the black trend in a design that won’t feel dated next summer.
You can buy a 5-piece setting of the Orly flatware for $68 at Anthropologie.
