I’ve been on a very strict no sugar kick (as in, fruit only), so when a food person I follow on Instagram mentioned her Yonanas machine and how much she loved it, I had to give it a try. You simply add frozen bananas, along with any other frozen fruit you like, and in a few seconds, you get a tasty soft-serve type “ice cream” that’s pretty darn tasty. Yep, even my kids ate it.

It’s ridiculously easy to use, and in fact, my kids were able to come up with their own concoctions. Once you plug in the Yonanas machine, you’ll add about half a frozen banana (that’s thawed for about 7-10 minutes) along with another fruit of your choice (or just bananas alone are fine), then press it all down and wait for it to come out as ice cream. Simple, right?

I suppose you could say it tastes like a smoothie, but it has the texture of ice cream, which is pretty awesome for people like me who haven’t had ice cream in ages. Or hey, maybe you’re dairy allergic (also like me), and you want to have some tasty non-dairy options too.

You will definitely want to make sure you’ve got frozen bananas ready to go, and they should really be very ripe; as you can probably guess, they’re much sweeter. And I will admit that the Yonanas is a bit of a pain to clean, but it does come apart pretty easily to make washing out all the parts a lot quicker. To me, it’s definitely worth the hassle. And considering my kids are loving it, I think it’s totally worth the money.
