Lately I’ve been researching (and um, sampling) my way through the best low-sugar Trader Joe’s snacks. I always like to be prepared for my son’s after school munchies — also his morning, afternoon, and evening munchies. Because this toddler loves to eat.
Ideally I’d always prepare a fresh healthy snack for my kid, but I love that these are ready and available when I don’t have a free hand to bake banana bread or whip up a smoothie. Plus, they avoid huge amounts of sugar, our biggest household dietary pitfall.
So here are 5 low-sugar snacks to throw in your cart with reckless abandon. No label scrutiny required!
They may not look like much, but these crackers absolutely shine when paired with a nice whipped feta or slice of cheddar. Honestly, they taste pretty darn great with any type of dairy product you choose to slather on, and at 6g of sugar per serving, you can do so guilt-free.
I love snack bars because I can just pop them into the diaper bag and break them out whenever someone needs a protein boost, even if that someone is me. TJ’s has done it again with their Hemp Seed Bar, another convenient low-sugar granola bar option and overall healthy snack from Trader Joe’s. It packs a lot of nutrition into a small package, too; the blueberries deliver antioxidants, while the hemp brings the Omega-3 to make your brain happy. It’s a convenient choice to have on hand for parents, and for kids who are old enough to chew nuts.
If tortilla chips are your favorite conduit for getting dips into your mouth, consider switching to these healthier crisps which come with a big helping of veggies and whole grains. I think they’d be great with one of Trader Joe’s many amazing dips, like their Mediterranean Hummus, my personal favorite. But try it with homemade guacamole, salsa, or whatever you love. The flavor profile is so versatile, especially for more highly spiced dips. Yum,
